Internship Reflection
Lali Sanchez
For my Junior internship I got to be a part of The MovementLab. The MovementLab is a dance company located in Santa Rosa California. I had the opportunity to be apart of this program and by doing so I got to bring my artistic side of me by drawing and painting on a mural and I also had the opportunity to work the shows and just to be apart of the community I decided to chose this project for my Junior project because I have been apart of this company before in the past and I knew I would love working with them again. I think I can speak for everyone who was apart of this project and say that we all had a lot of fun working with this company and i would do it again in a heartbeat.
My mentor’s role was to describe and help us learn what we we're going to be doing for this project. Daniel Segoriano was a good mentor and leader he was always there when we needed him and he helped us a lot by showing us what to do how to stay organized and how to use time management and just to have fun overall.
One of the challenges that I had to face was that I had early cheer practices in the mornings so some days I would get their a little bit late and some times everyone would have different ideas about what we are going to draw or what colors we are going to use or even who is doing what but I confronted these challenges by staying a couple of hours later and by figuring out different ways to set up the hall and by having different ideas for everyone and even trying to figure out who is doing what job. These challenges helped my overall experience because I love overcoming challenges and I got to do that in this project.
With this project I had the opportunity to personally growing as an artist and as a person through my internship by helping in the gallery I really grew as an artist because I didn't really know how to do certain things and I got to learn how to it and I never had experience with creating a mural until this project. I also grew personally because I got to work with other people share my ideas and I got a view of other peoples perspective because we all see things a certain way and it was really fun to collaborate with different ideas.
Some skills I developed during this project are people skills because I got to work and collaborate with a lot of different people and I got to work with different ideas and I also developed artistic skills by learning different ways to draw and paint. I think people skills can help me with my future career and I hope that last my art skills can too.
Overall it was an amazing experience getting to work with everyone that was involved. This project is not what I expected I got to experience a lot more things that I didn't know I was going to experience with It was definitely better than I would have ever imagined. I discovered i'm really good at coming up with different Ideas when we cant go a certain way. I learned how to work a show and I never thought that I would ever do that but it was really fun and interesting to learn. I think that art is a big part of my life that i would love to do something with it in the future and this project got to help me realize that.
